About Us

        The Misamis Oriental State College of Agriculture and Technology Library remains to be the heart of the institution, a meeting place for students, a safe environment providing learning and study spaces.   It is committed to provide timely access to information sources, optimize the use of all available resources , create  physical environment and collections conducive to learning and research and  provide meaningful  learning experience to users. The quest for knowledge has no boundary, thus the College Library’s  collection development activities continue to focus on the acquisition of print and digital resources. Library services likewise, continue to evolve to meet the changing information needs of our users, supplement and enhance their classroom experiences, develop their skills of locating sources of information and good reading habits.              The Library constantly strive to give the best service  possible to our clients, library automation in the charging , renewing and discharging  of items using the ANILAG Library system has been used since the middle part of 2014.  Internet connections is always monitored to ensure  continues  connectivity and  to provide clients with greater access to information in the world wide web. In May 2014, MOSCAT was added as new  institutional member of the Philippine Association of Academic and Research  Librarians Association.

Functions:

1. To provide meaningful support, sound advice and guidance to the College Librarian

2. To set as liaison between the users and the management, and

3. To serve as sounding board for innovations as the advocate to implementing new technologies

LIBRARY COLLECTIONS

          A total of three hundred fifty four (354)  titles with five hundred fifteen (515) volumes of  learning resources  were added to collection from January to December 2014 that includes books, eBooks, theses and dissertations, journals and magazines.

         As of December 2014,  the library has a total collection of 6,383 titles with 14,071 volumes of various learning resources  (books, journals, magazines, , audio-visual resources, and other electronic resources)  fully utilized by the students, faculty, alumni and other visiting clients. (see table 1).

There were  sixty (60) titles with seventy nine (79) volumes of books acquired through purchase, while 57 titles with 79 volumes of books were acquired through donation from book foundations, faculty, students’ organization, other government agencies and some private individuals. (see Table 2.)

STAFF DEVELOPMENT

B. In-house Staff Development

 Last July and August 2014  the Library conducted an in-house staff development activities  on  the following topics: 

1. Simple inventory of books

2. Preservation : Covering of books using plastic  cover/ cellophane

3. Preservation : Book binding using  (Stapler method)

4. Accessioning of books and magazines

LIBRARY USERS

The Library  is operating 11 hours  per day from  Monday to Friday excepts on holidays and weekends.  A total of 44,199 users were served in 208  working days, an average of 21 users were served  per hour (Table 3).

SERVICES / RESOURCES UTILIZATION

                A. CIRCULATION AND USE OF LIBRARY MATERIALS

The Library circulated 4, 653 items  through its  main circulation desk.    In -house shelving  of books and magazines were 12,481 items.   Overall, a  total 17,134 items were used from January to December 2014 which is lower by  22% of last year. The use of  (Figure  3 and Figure 4 )

 B. Audio-visual Services

               Audio visual room activities includes film showing, lectures, seminars, culmination programs, meetings, etc.  A total of 4,859 users served from January to December 2014. Graph below showed the number of users by Institute. (Figure 5)

C. Referral Services

Library permits were issued to students who wish to use other libraries who are ALINET member to augment  their research references.  A total of 6 permits were given to MATS graduating students who used other libraries in Cagayan de Oro.

D. Instruction Services (Orientation)

Library participated in the  College wide orientation  program for freshmen, transferees and returnee students  in the  first semester.  A series of group orientation were also conducted to those students who were not able to attend the general orientation.  A total of 507 students  were given library orientation or instruction on policies / rule and regulations. (Table 4)

E.  STARBOOK Usage

                   Access to DOST materials  through STARBOOKS helped students in their research activities.  There were  449 hits on full texts,  videos  and news/articles from January to December 2014. (Table 5)

F. Internet Services

The library is one of the hotspots in the campus which cater students  doing research in the internet through a W-fi connection using  their laptops, tablets and Wi-Fi enabled cell phones .  A total of 3, 350 users utilized this services for CY 2014

 

Other Accomplishments

  1. Approval of Library handbook.

        The 2014 Revised Library handbook was approved by  the Board of Trustees per Resolution  no. 74, s.2014 during the 4th quarter Board meeting in Metro Manila.

      2.  Accreditation

The library had prepared and submitted pertinent documents for accreditation of the 4 programs under the Institute of Agriculture  (BSAF, BTHM MSA , PhD, in Agriculture) and 1 program under the Institute of  Engineering and Technology (BSEnE).
