About Us

The Misamis Oriental State College of Agriculture and Technology Library remains in the great spot of the campus— whose prime objective is to meet the academic needs, cultivate ideas, develop capacities, and create knowledge.  It is committed to provide timely access to information sources, optimize the use of all available resources, create physical environment and collections conducive to learning and research and provide meaningful learning experience to users.

The quest for knowledge knows no bounds and limits and is never satisfied. The library aspires to transform the way our users experience knowledge. Thus, collection development activities continue to focus on the acquisition of updated prints and digital resources and meet the changing information needs of our clients. A total of four hundred seventy six (476) volumes books, eBooks, theses and dissertations, journals and magazines were added to collection.

Library services likewise, continue to evolve to supplement and enhance classroom experiences, ignite user’s curiosity and sense of possibility of locating information, and stimulate their creative intellectual endeavors.

The use of technology in the access of information remains to be a challenge especially with limited budget.   However,  the Library constantly strives to give the best service possible. Presently, the library uses free software such as   ANILAG Library System, for the charging and discharging of materials, Follet System,  for On-line Catalog,  INFOLib System for gate count statistics  and Calibre for e-book management.  These systems were harmonized in order to computerize the basic operations and improve the delivery of services to clients without so much worrying on financial obligations.          Our users are the Library’s first priority. We are committed to provide greater access to information sources .  It is open for  11 hours  per day from  7:30 a.m.  to 6:30 p.m. Monday to Friday except on holidays and weekends.  Our resources and services were  accessed in 38,084   times by our users in  204  working days, an average of 187 users were served  per day ( Figure 3).

  A. Resources  Utilization

We strive to improve our  services and to offer the best we can to our  users. It is our work with students, as they become more skilled information seekers and users, that provides the greatest reward.  The limited  volumes of our resources did not hinder  us from  giving  our clients  the access to information sources.  The Library circulated 3,090 items  through its  main circulation desk, and  7,896 items were in -house used  .   Overall, a  total 10,986 items were utilized   from January to December 2015.

Circulation and use of Library Resources  was  tremendously lowered by  60% as compared to last year. Some contributory factors  includes:  decreased  enrollment, implementation of new fine charges for  overdue books from P5.00 to P20.00 per day,  more  students were using their gadgets to do research like using their cell phone  tablets,  etc....

 B. Audio-visual Services

Audio visual  services continues to support  room activities includes film showing, lectures, seminars, culmination programs, meetings, etc.  AVR services starts from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., from Monday to Friday and on Saturdays for Dairy Training Course.   Its services were sometimes extended until 6:30 in some days of the week upon request of the faculty.   It was able to serve  8,010 users served from January to December 2015.  An average of 50 users were serves daily within 160 days of actual use. D.  STARBOOK Usage

Access to DOST materials  through STARBOOKS helped students in their research activities.  Students had less interest in using the STARBOOKS because the copyright dates of the materials stored in the kiosk were obsolete.  In summer  2015, it was updated by DOST  RX, Cagayan De Oro  resulting to the deletion of the previous data (Users utilization).  Table 2 shows only the utilization from May to December 2015.   On-Line Britannica  2010 was installed in the kiosk to augment its resources.  Statistic on the access to this resources is not includes in the data of  STARBOOKS.

G. Referral Services

The library still giving permit  to students  who wish to use other libraries who are ALINET member to augment  their research references.    With  the presence of our on-line  resources  in the Library,   none of our students were asking for permit this year.
